I will be working at school most of the week and won't be able to respond as quickly to emails, but I will be checking them and getting back to you when I can. I hope to see you all on Thursday when you come to get your things.
NOTE TO 4th & 5th Graders:
These assignments will be available on EdPuzzle at 4:00 PM Monday, May 25
LAST 4TH GRADE ASSIGNMENT: DUE ON THURSDAY, MAY 28
www.edpuzzle.com
After each location in the video, you will be asked to write a complete sentence stating a fact about it. You MUST paraphrase by using your own words. Remember to add adjectives and other details to your sentences. You must also vary your sentences, so they do not all start with the same words or the name of the place. Spell everything the best you can.
You must respond to 5 of them for social studies and 5 for science. (You may do a sentence for each subject in the same place.) Just make sure you have 5 for each for a total of 10. You MUST type the work "SKIP" in the ones you choose not to do. Make sure to watch to the very end because there is one more set of directions for you to follow there. This assignment will be your last grades for science, social studies, and reading for the year.
Enjoy the last tour of the United States for the year.
Last 5th Grade Assignment: Due on Thursday, May 28
www.edpuzzle.com
As you watch the video, you will be asked to write complete detailed sentences. You need to paraphrase your answers by using your own words, not the words of the narrator. Spelling will not count so spell everything the best that you can. The sentences and last answer will be for an English grade; the others are labeled for a social studies or science grade. Remember you can rewatch the segment if you need to get more information. Please note the Catholic religion aspects in the video.

Mrs. Miller has asked that the teachers relay your Friday activity today so that we can surprise Father Joe.
Father Joe is celebrating his 25th year as a priest this month. Today you need to compose a letter congratulating him and telling him how much you appreciate all he does for us. Some ideas you may include would be his visits to our classroom, his special homilies to the students at Wednesday masses, and any specific memory you have. The more you can personalize it, the better it will be. I KNOW how beautiful your letters can be. (I've received some myself and have read yours to our homebound.)
Please email your letters to me, and I will be putting them together in a binder to give him. If anyone would like to also add a picture, I will include that as the cover (make sure you put your name on that, too). Please choose a larger font and use proper letter form.
They need to be emailed to me by Monday, May 18, but I would prefer they are completed today. I'm looking forward to receiving them.

Week 4 of E-learning
Holy Thursday, April 9
Grades 3-8 Plan a Family Prayer Service-a beautiful way to begin the Triduum with your family.
1) Gather your family around a prayer table. You may create a prayer table by placing a tablecloth, Bible, a candle, vase of flowers, on the table. Think of the items that are on your prayer tables in your classrooms.
2) Light the candle on the prayer table.
3) Sing an opening song, much like we do in prayer services at school. Possible use “Be Not Afraid.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWpG7qHtB8g
4) Lead the following prayer:
Let us pray.
Risen Lord,
You are always with our family.
And you are here in our midst today.
Help us to see you,
To hear your voice
And to follow you always.
For you alone are Lord, now and for ever.
Amen
5) Talk to your family about certain fears that you or they may have and discuss these and how you may help each other with your fears. Take a few moments of quiet reflection to pray for those who live in fear.
6) Stand, Sing Alleluia, Invite a Family Member to Read the Gospel:
Matthew 28:1-10
Jesus Has Risen
28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
7) Ask family members what the most important piece of this Gospel is? Ask your family members to conclude the following statement:
The Good News we will share with others about Easter is…….
8) Conclude by saying the following prayer together:
Loving God, today our year of study of the Gospel of Matthew comes to an end. As we enter the spring and summer days ahead, help us remember that you are with our family always. Let us live in faith, recalling your words, “Do Not Be Afraid.” We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Happy Easter! Stay well! I am missing you all!

Journal-On April 6, 1898, the North Pole was discovered (we know a little about this from our story about Matthew Henson). Using resources on the computer, learn five (5) new facts about the North Pole and summarize them in your own words. List the 5 facts and then turn them into a paragraph. Remember to paraphrase; do not copy the sources' words. Changing some of the words is not paraphrasing. Write what you learned in your own words.
Class meeting at 2:00. Have your Storyworks ready to read the part of the play you were assigned at our last meeting. I can't wait to hear your fluency and inflection. The story quiz will be online tomorrow.

Small Group Class Meetings--check in at the same time as Monday with your journal and 6-Traits book and a pen. See you then:)
Read the play "The Elephants and the Mice" pp. 20-25 to "scratch the surface" of the story.
4th Grade Social Studies-Check back on Flocabulary from yesterday. Some you did poorly and I reassigned 1, 2, or all 3 for you to score better and learn more. If you did not complete it, get to it today.
Religion-today is mass; go to St. Damian Church Facebook page or watch it on Youtube live or later in the day. Afterwards write 2 or 3 sentences of reflection about the homily and email it to me.
5th Grade Social Studies-This is terrible!! Only 2 of you completed the Chapter Opener on Pearson. What is going on? Some of you show "in progress" but you need to finish it. The problem for those people might be that you are not reading everything and not hitting the check mark in the upper right corner when you finish a page. That will take you to any more pages that are there.
I also reassigned the test if you need or want to take it again. I know someone had a computer issue, and a couple of others wanted to try again. Remember the score does not reflect extra credit answers that if you missed will not count against you (and if you got them correct will give you extra credit)!! This is not a typical test because I'm not sure what you are doing during the e-lessons. If you are watching the videos and paying attention, you should have done fine. The map questions are skills we have been practicing all year. I can not say (type) it enough: READ EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE!!! (my gentle reminder:{ Next week we start with what life was like in those colonies.
NOW GET BUSY, 5th Graders! Some of you are disappointing me, and I will be emailing or phoning parents on Friday to see what is going on if you don't get these assignments completed. It is only 2 days a week that you get work from me now.
